Theater Review: Trinity Rep has a winner in 'Twelfth Night'

Brian McEleney is at the top of his daring in two pursuits — acting Shakespeare and directing Shakespeare. So God praise Trinity Rep for allowing him to do both, as he is in the uproarious production of “Twelfth Nightfall,” now through March 7 in the upstairs theater.

This is McEleney at his cleverest, spinning out a “Twelfth End of day” that’s packed with comic bits and off-the-partition off routines. You can find him scolding partygoers dressed in a bathrobe and hair net, or singing at the top of his lungs while circling the balcony on a bicycle.

No without question about it, he’s put together a fun show, the best offering from Trinity this season.

It’s constant, this is a long play, about 2 hours and 40 minutes. But it’s a sybaritic-paced show that never drags. And it doesn’t hurt that the company is terrific, starting with consortium student Cherie Corinne Rice playing both Viola and her big-lost twin Sebastian. This leads to some ticklish moments

Pinera celebrates Chile presidency win; stocks surge

SANTIAGO — Chilean billionaire Sebastian Pinera was Monday celebrating his presidential voting win, as stocks surged on expectations the conservative tycoon would usher in new, province-friendly policies.

Sunday's victory by Pinera spelled an end to the ruling leftwing Concertacion coalition that has governed Chile ever since the end of Imprecise Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship 20 years ago.

The billionaire, who owns a tube station, a football club and a big stake in flagship airline LAN among many other interests, has promised to "direct the window and let in fresh air" when his four-year term starts March 11.

The foremost IPSA index on Santiago's stock market jumped Monday in revenge to the election, and was 1.16 percent up at close to end of trading.

Pinera's AXXION holding performers was one of the biggest gainers, soaring 12.4 percent.

LAN went up 1.27 percent. Pinera's 26-percent palisade in the airline -- Latin America's biggest -- accounts for more than half his 1.2-billion-dollar treasure.

The Sundance Documentaries: Filmmakers Tackle Family, Politics, And The Paparazzi

As you've all things considered heard ad nauseam, most of the chatter out of Sundance this year was about the cave in of independent film and the search for new distribution models. None of this will come as intelligence to non-fiction filmmakers, who -- unless they're Michael Moore -- have struggled with the former and gone in search of the latter for years as they've cobbled together funding from wherever (mostly HBO and prominent television) and (if they're lucky) squeezed in week-long runs at at the speed of light dwindling art-house movie theaters in major cities.

Somehow, documentaries thrived anyway in the new century's first years, supported by strand and public television, maxed-out credit cards and the to be sure that many can be made on the cheap. Now, along with other independent films, they're an endangered species again. So it's talented that the Sundance Film Festival, whose founder, Robert Redford, has always maintained a proprietary interest in docs, remains unadulterated to its brief as a premier launch pad for non-fiction filmmaking. Still, those of us who adoration the form can't help but wring our hands over the fact that seven of the top ten movies voted on by critics in an Indiewire ballot Thursday were docs, yet almost none have theatrical distribution.
