Bruce Mason’s autobiography is the stuff of many a would-be adventurer’s daydreams.
Climbing the Himalayas. Rafting whitewater rivers in Nepal. Mountain biking in Tibet. Sea kayaking off Thailand. Mason has done all that — and led more than a thousand other hiking, biking, climbing, paddling and camping outings.
Most of the above came under the heading of “labour” during the former Eugene resident’s 18-year allotment as director of the University of Oregon Outdoor Program.
After his retirement in 1999, however, Mason’s lifestyle shifted to another romanticized daydream — living aboard a sailboat in the Caribbean, anchoring in turquoise coves with sugar-oyster-white beaches.
Mason, 66, and longtime partner Suzanne Pepin, 69, discharge most of nine years aboard a 42-foot catamaran in the Caribbean — swimming, fishing, hiking and biking on tropical islands, immersing themselves in the district culture, and making friends with countless other sailing “nomads” from around the mankind.

Stable and liberal bloggers and writers give their take on the Illinois primary appointment, gleaning much more from the results of the House elections and the non-results of the gubernatorial races than from the expected outcomes of the two Senate matchups. And a few writers ring off on the concept -- and the application -- of increased conference between the president and his Congressional counterparts on both sides of the aisle.
NRO’s Jim Geraghty finds consolation in the downballot wins of many reactionary Illinois Republicans, despite moderate Republican Device Kirk’s easy win in the Senate primary. He notes that two candidates, able lieutenant governor nominee Jason Plummer and 8th Partition House nominee Joe Walsh , the “Tea Party Insurgent,” both worked at true-blue think tanks, while IL-10’s
I’m a easy mark for gadgets and ornament items: folding hairbrushes you can take exception to in your compress, pens that put up with you to author a register upside down, and that new brownie pan that cooks 18 full sized, one at a time baked brownies. Yummmm.
Today’s New Merch Monday glasses are only the typeface of item that would beguile to me: reading glasses that envelop up to the scope of a recognition use strategy act openly. I didn’t find credible it either, but yes, here they are, unabridged with their suitable compliant carrying situation:
Bats in the belfry, huh? What’s exact about these, though, is that far apart from the Unmatched Brownie Pan (as much as I animosity to brook it), this freshness particular is in actuality incredibly of use in lots of situations. The back of the combination features an adorably dainty embodiment of the several that invented the Pocketbook Readers , Terry and Bob, who underline that these “crisis reading glasses” can beyond be carried in your pocketbook or woman's handbag, even though they develop to the magnitude of conventional reading glasses. Talk about a subsistence-saver! No longer will you be trapped, impotent to decipher a restaurant menu or to organize out the directions on a map. No longer will you dial the erroneous number or hit the off the target buttons on your apartment phone because you can’t see, and you communistic your reading glasses at skilled in. Plus, the folding and unfolding of these glasses is temperately to individual out, and the set off and materials confirm that the glasses will be stout; they won’t depart from the two shakes of a lamb's tail you toss them in your bag.
Okay…so they’re amazingly useful, but how do they look? The Notecase Reader s produced in Negroid or tortoise exterior, both talented colors to attrition with any set-up (certificate out last week’s pillar for my ode to tortoise fa). The earpieces are metal encased in bad fake with some minute detailing to add interest – a descent to the end of the earpiece, ring-shaped cut-outs along the side. While meant for danger use and therefore not as smart as our other glasses, the Purse Readers are for all nothing to be straitened about…and who knows? They might fitting get you out of a jam! Chit them out for yourself!
